2023 Elaine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L Magnum

The core Cabernet Sauvignon blocks in the heart of our Estate Vineyard consistently produce a wine worthy of singular expression.  The wine we bottle as “The Estate” every vintage shows the power and grace that this terroir delivers.  In outstanding vintages, we take things a step further and select only a handful of barrels that we feel evoke the essence of the vineyard and the vintage.  We blend these barrels together and bottle a very special cuvee called “Elaine,” named after the matriarch of the Ellman clan.  This bottling of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from these stately vines—now nearly 30 years old—is certainly a wine worth cellaring as it will confidently age for decades.  It is a wine that should be shared with family, friends, and other loved ones around a table.

The 2023 Elaine Cabernet Sauvignon captures the spirit of this uniquely fresh and concentrated vintage.  The wine is incredibly dark and structured, but with a wonderful sense of balance and nuance.  This cooler vintage in Napa Valley brought wines with the full spectrum of Cabernet Sauvignon aromas and flavors, from sage and flint to cassis, black raspberry, and mocha.  The vibrant natural acidity and energy is alluring from the start, and the wine expands across the palate with subtle ease.  Unlike many Napa Valley vintages, which deliver wines that are soft and fruit-driven, this 2023 is highly structured and multi-layered.  This latest vintage of Elaine is complex and enjoyable now, and will undoubtedly unfold to reveal new treasures over the years in bottle.
